Men's Tennis Impresses At A Pair Of Tournaments

The Columbia men’s tennis team continued its hot start to the fall during a pair of tournaments over the weekend.

NEW YORK – The Columbia men's tennis team continued its hot start to the fall during a pair of tournaments over the weekend.

Jack Lin was the winner of the Tiger Gold Singles Draw at the Ivy Plus Tournament in Princeton, before going on to take the doubles title with William Matheson in the Orange Gold Draw. At the UVA Masters Tournament hosted by Virginia, Adam Ambrozy and Jackie Tang both won three singles matches, before taking a pair of doubles wins back to Columbia.

In his first round match at Princeton, Lin was a straight set winner against Osgar O'Hoisin of Wisconsin. The Columbia sophomore bested Cornell's Eero Vasa, 7-5, 6-2, before beating Alex Brown from Illinois, 6-4, 6-4, in the semifinal. After dropping the first set to Ryan Seggerman of Princeton in the final, Lin bounced-back to earn a 2-6, 7-5, 10-6 win, and earn the Tiger Gold Draw title.

Alongside Matheson in doubles play, the pair went to a tiebreaker in the semifinal with the LSU pair of Wagner and Thomas, but advanced with an 8-7 (5) victory. Matheson and Lin were once again set up with Princeton's Seggerman along with Damian Rodriguez, coming away with the 6-3 win.

Rian Pandole and Jack Turchetta also had a successful run at Princeton, earning three doubles victories en route to the Bronze/Gold doubles title.

Down in Charlottesville, Virginia at the UVA Masters, Adam Ambrozy and Jackie Tang pulled off a huge doubles upset, knocking off the No. 7 pair in the ITA. After defeating Virginia's Bozsiki/Alhaqbani, the Columbia pair was matched with Mississippi State's Giovanni Oradini and Niclas Braun, cruising to a 6-2 victory over the top-10 pair.

Both Ambrozy and Tang found their stroke in singles play, as the two Lions both beat a pair of ranked players.

Ambrozy fell down a set to Braun in his first match, but won the second and the third to top the No. 109 ranked Bulldog, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5. The Columbia junior went on to defeat No. 76 Enzo Wallert in three sets, then knocked off Florida's Briand Berdusco, before falling to No. 11 Johannes Ingildsen (Florida), and Melios Efstathiou (Wake Forest).

Tang posted straight-set wins against Wake Forest's Rrezart Cungu and No. 57 ranked Durante Vale in his first two singles matches. Tang also knocked off No. 100 Andy Andrade (Florida) as well over the weekend.
