The Lions come away with a pair of wins at UConn's Cupid Classic on Sunday.
STORRS, Conn. — In their second outing of the 2019 season, the Columbia archery program picked up another pair of wins as Sophia Strachan won her second compound title in as many weeks and first-year Meghan Collins earned her first collegiate win in recurve at UConn's Cupid Classic on Sunday.
"This was another good showing for us," said Columbia head coach Derek Davis. "We are in a good position leading into our home event and then Indoor Nationals."
Not only did Strachan win the compound division, but improved upon her score from the Eastern Seaboard Championship by seven points, posting a score of 584. Sophomore Brittney Shin was second in the event with a score of 562, followed by sophomore Deborah Teo who recorded a 543.
Collins earned her first win of the season, taking the collegiate recurve victory with a score of 570 – 26 points higher than her score from Atlantic Cape the previous weekend. Sophomore Christine Kim placed second with a score of 550, followed by senior Bianco Gotuaco (549) and senior Aileen Yu (548).
Impressively, every single Lion archer recorded a score above 520 in the outing, while seven of 10 improved upon their scores from the first week of competition.
The Lions will be back in action this weekend, Feb. 15-17, hosting the second annual CU Open, which serves as a fundraiser for the Pink Arrow Project. The event will take place at the Columbia Archery Training Center.
