Mark Fichera - Hall of Fame

Mark Fichera
- Induction:
- 2026
- Class:
- 2001
Mark Fichera established himself as one of the top divers in Columbia history during his career from 1997-2001, winning five individual Ivy League championships, earning NCAA All-America honors and setting program records that stood for nearly two decades.
Fichera emerged as one of the Ivy League’s premier divers during his sophomore season in 1999, when he captured the 1-meter title at the Ivy League Championships. It marked the start of a dominant three-year run, as Fichera defended his title in 2000 before winning the 1-meter championship for a third straight year in 2001.
His success extended to the 3-meter board. Fichera swept the diving titles at the Ivy League Championships in each of his final two seasons, winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions in 2000 and 2001. He earned All-Ivy League recognition in three consecutive seasons from 1999-2001.
Fichera saved one of his finest performances for his senior season. In 2001, he earned NCAA All-America honors, adding national recognition to a Columbia career that had already included five Ivy League individual titles. He also set Columbia records in both diving events during his career. Those marks remained atop the program record book for approximately 20 years, and his 3-meter score of 600.10 over 10 dives, set in 2001, remains the Columbia program record.
A team captain as a senior, Fichera also distinguished himself academically. He was named Academic All-Ivy League in both 2000 and 2001, closing his Columbia career with recognition for his performance in competition and in the classroom.
Athletics played a defining role in Fichera’s Columbia experience and ultimately helped prepare him for an unconventional career after graduation. He stayed in New York and entered the television and film industry as a stunt performer, finding a profession that let him keep pursuing the physical challenges he had embraced throughout his life.
Fichera went on to become a stunt coordinator and action director, designing and directing action sequences for major film productions worldwide. His career has included work with directors Christopher Nolan, Ridley Scott, Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese. He has also doubled for actors including Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Matthew McConaughey, Robert Downey Jr. and Jake Gyllenhaal.
His film credits include some of the most recognizable productions of the past two decades, including Inception, Interstellar, Dunkirk, The Wolf of Wall Street and West Side Story. As his career progressed, Fichera expanded from performing stunts to coordinating action sequences and taking on directing responsibilities.
