Jerry Recco and Dalen Cuff Named Broadcast Team for Men's Basketball
11/7/2006 12:00:00 AM | General, Men's Basketball
Columbia University will launch internet broadcast coverage of men and women's basketball this season on the official Columbia University Athletics website, gocolumbialions.com. New York sports radio personality Jerry Recco will be joined by former Columbia Lion Dalen Cuff '06CC to call Columbia men's basketball games on the internet. Select games will be simulcast over-the-air on WSNR AM 620, Jersey City.
The 2006-07 Columbia Men's Basketball season begins on Sunday, November 12 at 8:00 p.m. when the Lions head to Cameron Indoor Stadium to take on the Duke Blue Devils in the first round of the CBE Classic. The game will be broadcast on the radio in the New York metropolitan area exclusively on WSNR-AM. The game will also be available on the cable TV network ESPNU.
Recco, a sports anchor for New York's WFAN-AM and Sirius Satellite Radio, is completing his first season as play-by-play announcer for Columbia Football – and will continue in the role of “Voice of the Lions” for the upcoming basketball season.
“Jerry Recco is one of New York City's most recognizable sports radio personalities,” notes Barry Neuberger, Associate Athletics Director for Sports Marketing. “Jerry's work on Columbia Football this season has received critical success from many Columbia fans and sports industry professionals. We are happy to be able to feature him on Men's Basketball programming this winter.”
Dalen Cuff, a 2006 graduate of Columbia College, was the captain of the 2005-06 Columbia men's basketball team. During his Lions career, he played in 100 games, scored more than 400 points and had two seasons rank in the top 20 on Columbia's all-time best lists in three-point percentage and three-point field goals.
“We are excited to add a former Columbia Lion to our internet and radio broadcasts of Columbia Men's Basketball,” adds Alex Oberweger, Associate Athletics Director for Strategic Communications and Event Operations. “Dalen's experience as a recent former player, combined with his natural aptitude for broadcasting will provide the Lions with a first-rate broadcast team.”
The SideLION PASS feature of gocolumbialions.com will feature videocasts, in addition to the radio feed for most home men and women's basketball games (subject to blackout).
Also featured on the SideLION PASS will be highlight videos and post-game press conferences. For more information about the SideLION PASS, visit gocolumbialions.com.
Many Columbia men and women's basketball games will also be broadcast by University-owned radio station WKCR-FM (89.9), New York, under the direction of Howard Kline and John Painting. Visit wkcr.org for more details.
