Peters (CC), a senior co-captain this year, and 2005 All-American, took gold in the women's elite/open lightweight double sculls. Rowing for the Pocock Elite Sculling Team, Peters and Liz Patterson defeated the New York Athletic Club by more than eight seconds over the 2000-meter course at the Eagle Creek Reservoir.
Peters and Patterson were timed in 7:30.28, with the NYAC second in 7:38.94.
Competing for the Detroit Boat Club, Bucien (CC) won the women's elite/open lightweight single sculls. The Columbia sophomore from Shelby Township, Mich., rowed a 7:57.30 to defeat Jeanette Saraidaridis of the GMS Rowing Center, by 3.23 seconds. Another member of the Pocock Elite Sculling Team, Alicia Cole, was third.
A transfer from the University of Michigan, Bucien made the first varsity eight for Columbia this spring, and will return this fall as a key rower for coach Melanie Onufrieff's program. Peters, a native of Utica, N.Y., has moved to Seattle, where she will train. Her parents gave her a single scull as a graduation present.
