NEW YORK – Columbia will begin the 2009-10 season with a pair of exhibition meets at the Dodge Fitness Center during the weekend of November 20-21, beginning with a 45-touch scrimmage against NYU on Friday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m.
The 45-touch scrimmage, modeled after Olympic-style competition, was originally slated for 4 p.m. on Friday, but will now start at 6 p.m. in Columbia's University (Blue) Gym.
The team's annual alumni meet will take place the following day, on Saturday, November 21 at 10 a.m. in the team's fencing room on the first floor of the Dodge Fitness Center.
Columbia will open 2010 by competing in the San Jose North American Cup, beginning on January 15. The dual-meet season starts a week later, when Columbia will square off against some of the nation's best over the weekend of January 23-24.
On Jan. 23, Columbia's men and women will square off against Notre Dame, St. John's, Ohio State and Wayne State. The men's squad will also face Stevens Tech, while the women's team will face Northwestern in addition to the four aforementioned opponents.
A day later, at St. John's, Columbia will meet the host Red Storm, along with the top three finishers at last year's NCAA Championships - Ohio State, Notre Dame and Penn State, last year's NCAA champion. Columbia finished fourth at the 2009 Championships.
