
EIWA Champion Ryan Flores Headed to Nationals

NEW YORK ? Ryan Flores is headed back to the NCAA Wrestling Championships in St. Louis, March 19-21, at the Scottrade Center.
On Sunday, March 8, Flores defeated Lehigh's Zach Rey in an exciting 6-1 sudden victory win to capture the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) Championship title. In doing so, the sophomore became Columbia's first champion since 1995 when Nick Szerlip won the 190-pound title.
Flores, seeded 10th in his weight class, enters the NCAA Championship with a 31-3 overall record. He will face Benjamin Berhow of Minnesota (26-9) on Thursday morning in the first round of competition.
The Clovis, Calif., native qualified for the NCAA Championships last season as a first-year after placing second at the EIWA Championships. He finished the tournament with a 1-2 record, picking up a win over Charlie Alexander of Oregon, 2-1 TB OT. His losses came to eventual champion, Dustin Fox (Northwestern) and #11 Matt Spaid (Bloomsburg).
