PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Columbia wrestling team won its first dual of the day against Waynesburg (31-15) before falling to the University of Pittsburgh (28-9) and Eastern Michigan (21-18) at the Pitt Duals on Saturday, January 9. The Lions then defeated Duquesne (31-15) in their fourth dual of the day, bringing their overall record to 4-4-1.
"Overall, we are very pleased with our team's performance today," said Brendan Buckley, the Andrew F. Barth Head Coach of Wrestling. "Our guys are wrestling hard and showed a lot of effort today. We lost a couple of close individual matches and hoped to have gotten one more win."
Sophomore Kyle Gilchrist had a phenomenal day, finishing 4-0 including two wins by fall. Junior Eren Civan also finished 4-0 on the day, while Steve Santos won all three of his bouts.
"Gilchrist looked great today," noted Buckley. "He wrestled hard in every match and had a huge upset over a ranked wrestler from Pitt. He and Santos really led the way for us today."
