
Former Columbia Wrestling Coach Lou Montano Selected For California Wrestling Hall of Fame

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Former Columbia head wrestling coach Lou Montano will be inducted into the California Wrestling Hall of Fame as part of its nine-member class of 2012.
Montano led the Columbia wrestling program from the 1991-92 season through the 1999-00 season, compiling a 69-46-1 record. He is one of just two Columbia wrestling coaches to post multiple double-digit win seasons (10-4 in 1994-95, 12-6 in 1996-97 and 10-6 in 1998-99).
Prior to joining Columbia, Montano was an assistant at Cal Poly from 1984-86 and an assistant at Cal State Bakersfield from 1987-91.
As a wrestler, Montano had a 112-16-1 record at Cal Poly and was a two-time All-American. As a senior in 1983, he placed second at the NCAA championships in the 158-pound class and had a 41-2-1 record.
Over the years, Montano has continued to promote the sport of wrestling with presentations at various major camps and clinics across the nation.
Montano currently serves as the director of Cal State Bakersfield's testing and high school equivalency program.
The 2012 California Wrestling Hall of Fame Banquet will be held on May 12, 2012, at the Bakersfield Marriott at the Convention Center in Bakersfield, Calif.
