
Men's Tennis Makes it Two Straight With Road Sweep of Army, 7-0

NEW YORK – The Columbia men's tennis team improved to 7-2 on the season Saturday, with a 7-0 sweep of Army in West Point, N.Y. The Lions won all three doubles matches and six singles matches without dropping a set to the Black Knights.
In the doubles spot, first-years Ashok Narayana and Max Schnur beat their opponents in the No.1 spot with ease, 8-1. At No.2, first-year Bert Vancura teamed up with Tizian Bucher to beat Alex VanVelzer and Peter Sienko, 8-2. And Winston Lin and John Yetimoglu made it a perfect point, with their 8-6 win in the No.3 spot.
Up 1-0 heading into singles, Columbia got three quick wins to clinch the match. Vancura beat Henry Jang-Milsten, 6-1, 6-0 at No.3, Yetimoglu beat Alex Holland, 6-0, 6-2 at No.4, and Bucher had a 6-1, 6-0 win in the No.5 spot over Rommel Verano.
Columbia continued the shutout with a 6-3, 6-3 win by Lin in the No.1 spot over Asika Isoh, while Schnur beat Sienko at No.6, 6-2. 6-4. And Narayana had a 6-2, 7-6 win in the No.2 spot, as he beat Van Velzer.
Up next for the Lions is the annual Varsity Alumni and Friends Match, which will take place, Saturday, March 3 at 4 p.m. Columbia men's tennis will next compete on their spring break road trip, as they head west to take on TCU, SMU, Texas-Arlington and Sacramento State, March 13-17.
