Hernandez Highlights Columbia's Day At Cliff Keen Invitational

LAS VEGAS - The first day of the Cliff Keen Invitational is complete, and one Columbia wrestler will advance to the second day after battling some of the top competition in the country today at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Zack Hernandez will advance to day two after going 3-1 on the day at 184. The junior won his first match by a score of 10-4, before dropping a 4-1 contest. Hernandez topped Army's Austin Wilding 5-0 in the final match of the session, advancing to this evenings session.
In his final match on day one, Hernandez topped NC State's Michael Macchiavello 10-7. He will now earn another rematch with Brown's Ophir Bernstein, who Hernandez faced three times last season. The Honolulu, Hawaii, native and the rest of the remaining wrestlers will start up again tomorrow at 9 a.m. local time (12 p.m. est.).
Jacob Macalolooy earned a win by fall in the second period of his first match of the day. The first-year at 141 then dropped a 17-7 match to the three-seed, Nick Dardanes of Minnesota, in his second bout. Macalolooy then earned a 10-2 victory over Joeseph Duca of Indiana to advance to the night session, where he dropped his final contest.
At 133, Angelo Amenta opened the day with two wins, before dropping two matches. Markus Scheidel (157), Matt Idelson (197), and Garrett Ryan (HWT.) also won their first matches of the day, but the trio ended 1-2, becoming eliminated.
Other Columbia wrestlers earning a win today included Johnson Mai at 125, Connor Sutton at 149, and Tyrel White at 165.
