NEW YORK - Columbia won six matches and earned bonus points twice en route to a 23-16 victory over American. With the win, the Lions improved to 3-2 in dual action this season.
Angelo Amenta was able to earn a 7-6 victory at 133, but American jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the first four matches. Columbia was able to take the next three from 157-174, and jump out to a seven point lead.
Markus Scheidel started the Lion streak, winning a match over American's John Boyle, who was 24-5 entering the dual. Scheidel took match, 4-3, to earn his 13th win of the season.
At 165, Tyrel White was dominant, earning a tech fall, 16-1, over Brad Mutchnik. Shane Hughes kept the bonus points coming, when he pinned Nick Carey at 2:16 to bump the Lion lead 17-10.
American fought back at 184, as Jaric Kasunic tallied a victory via fall over Zack Hernandez at 3:23, making it a 17-16 contest.
The threat would not stand however, as Matt Idelson won a 6-2 decision in the 197 match, and Garrett Ryan earned an 8-1 victory over Chris McDermand.
