
Joseph A. Quinlan Jr. Named Senior Associate Athletics Director

NEW YORK - Joseph A. Quinlan Jr., former Director of Athletics at Saint Peter's University, has been named Senior Associate Athletics Director for Internal Operations, Peter Pilling, Columbia's Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education announced today.
“Joe has a wealth of diverse experience in collegiate athletics,” Pilling said. “His leadership skills and his expertise in management and administration made him the perfect fit for this position. Joe has all the intangibles to help us take Columbia Athletics to new heights. We are thrilled to have him join our staff.”
Quinlan spent nearly four years as the Director of Athletics at Saint Peter's University in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Prior to his appointment in 2012, he was the Interim Director of Athletics.
Quinlan served as the chair of the MAAC Committee on Athletics Administration and also served as the chair of MAAC Cross Country committee for three years.
During his tenure as Director of Athletics, Saint Peter's won two MAAC Women's Indoor Track & Field championship (2012, 2013), one MAAC Outdoor Track & Field title (2012) and two MAAC Men's Golf crowns (2014, 2015).
On St. Peter's campus, Quinlan served as the Co-Chair of the Athletics Strategic Planning Committee and also spearheaded the annual Saint Peter's William J. Murray All Sports Golf Outing, the Saint Peter's Athletics Hall of Fame and the Saint Peter's Student-Athlete Dinner.

Prior to his arrival to Jersey City, Quinlan served as the Director of Athletics at Seton Hall University. Prior to his stint at Seton Hall, he was Senior Associate Athletics Director at Rutgers University from 1998-2003 and was then promoted to Deputy Director of Athletics in 2003. Active in the conference, he served on the BIG EAST Championships and Competition Committee from 1999-2005.
Quinlan's broad-based experience includes a stint at the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, beginning in the fall of 1994, where he directed the Meadowlands Organizing Committee for the 1996 NCAA Final Four. Quinlan also worked for Seton Hall from 1986-89. During the 1986-87 academic year, he was assistant sports information director. In 1987, he was promoted to assistant director of athletics where he was responsible for scheduling, team travel and home game management.
Following Seton Hall's appearance in the 1989 Championship Game, Quinlan moved to the National Collegiate Athletic Association, where he was the Assistant Director of the Division I Men's Basketball Championship. From 1992-1994, Quinlan was Assistant Athletics Director at St. Bonaventure University. He began his career in collegiate athletics as a Sports Information Director at Loyola College in Baltimore, Md. from 1984-86.
Quinlan earned his bachelor's degree at Slippery Rock State College and his master's degree from The Ohio State University.
Quinlan and his wife Noreen, who graduated from Columbia School of Nursing (1975) and earned her MA in nursing administration from Teachers College '83, have one daughter, Tess (Marquette'14) who is currently a sports journalist.
