COLUMBIA'S STATUS
The Lions return to action after a 17-day layoff due to final exams and the holidays. Columbia snapped a three-game slide with a convincing 84-42 triumph over Manhattanville on Dec. 11.
ABOUT MIAMI
• The Hurricanes come into Wednesday's matchup winners of five straight after a 72-64 win over George Washington on Dec. 22.
• Miami is led by Ja'Quan Newton, who is posting 14.7 points per game. Kamari Murphy is pulling down 8.0 rebounds per contest.
• This will be the second Ivy League foe for Miami after topping Penn, 74-62, on Nov. 19.
SERIES HISTORY
Columbia and Miami will face off for just the fourth time Wednesday. The Lions won the first meeting, 64-59, in the 1952-53 season and did not meet again until a 69-62 Hurricane victory in December 1995. Miami also claimed a 65-41 win in the last meeting in Coral Gables in November 2000.
COLUMBIA VS. THE ACC
The Lions are 10-27 against teams currently in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Columbia's last victory against an ACC foe came on Dec. 27, 1969 against Wake Forest, 101-78, in Philadelphia during the Quaker City Tournament. The Lions' most common foe is Syracuse, who they are 3-10 against. Columbia has not faced an ACC team since December 2008 when they took on Virginia Tech at the Madison Square Garden Holiday Festival.
ON THE OFFENSIVE
Through the first quarter of the season, Columbia leads the Ivy League in field goal percentage (.472) and ranks second in points per game (77.9) and 3-point percentage (.379).
