FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. - Columbia men's tennis first-year Anthony Jackie Tang is making his rounds at the U.S. Open Junior Division, advancing in the doubles division alongside Chinen Hsun Lo from Taiwan.
On Tuesday, the pair topped highly-rated Australians Alex De Minaur and Blak Ellis by a 6-3, 3-6 (10-6) margin. The team from Down Under won the doubles division at the 2016 Australian Open Junior Championships, while De Minaur is ranked No. 2 in the World Junior rankings.
"Jackie has been playing very well all summer and it's nice to see him play in person," said Columbia head coach Bid Goswami. "Hopefully he can keep it going."
A day later, Tang and Lo continued on, beating the No. 2 seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece) and Kenneth Raisma (Estonia), 6-3, 2-6, (10-7). That win was especially impressive, considering Tsitsipas and Raisma were the boys doubles winners at the Wimbledon Junior Championships, and Tsitsipas was the world's top-ranked juinor.
The next match for Tang and Lo will be against Zizou Bergs (Belgium) and Yshai Oliel (Israel).
