Wrestling Drops Dual to Drexel, 27-9

NEW YORK – The Columbia wrestling team came away with victories in three of 10 bouts, as Drexel topped the Lions tonight at the Blue Gym, 27-9.
In a dual that started at heavyweight, the Lions led after Garrett Ryan posted his 20th victory of the season thanks to a 3-0 decision over Vincent Pelusi.
After the Ryan win, the Dragons were able to pick up four straight victories of their own in the lower weights, aided by bonus points in three of those matches to jump out to a 16-3 lead.
At 157, Markus Scheidel was able to improve to 9-1 on the season, after a battle with Garrett Hammond, which he went on to win 11-8. After Ebed Jerrell topped Laurence Kosoy at 165, Tyrel White came away with a tight 6-5 decision for his 15th victory of the year.
Drexel went on to post triumphs at 184 and 197 to close the dual with the 27-9 team win.
Columbia is back in action twice next weekend at home, with a Saturday night dual against Bucknell at 7 p.m., before taking on Lock Haven at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
