Wrestling Edged By No. 18 Lock Haven, 21-19

NEW YORK – Columbia held the lead throughout the middle of the dual, but No. 18 Lock Haven fought back to pick up a 21-19 win, today in the Blue Gym.
Bonus points in four of Lock Haven's five bout victories today proved to be the difference despite the 5-5 split in the dual results.
The Bald Eagles led 5-0 with a tech fall by Chance Marsteller to start the match at 165, before a pair of overtime victories helped Columbia battle back.
Tyrel White and Jared Siegrist went to a sudden victory period at 174, tied 6-6. After a scoreless first minute, the two went to a 30-second rideout period, where neither wrestler was able to pick up an escape. After another scoreless minute in the second sudden victory period, White earned the escape point and held on during his rideout to seal the 7-6 win.
The next bout went similarily for Andrew Psomas and Corey Hazel, who were tied 5-5 after regulation. After Psomas shot for Hazel's legs in the sudden victory period, Hazel backed off enough to have his second stalling call, ending the match in a 6-5 win for Psomas, and giving the Lions a 6-5 lead in the team scoring.
That advantage would grow in the next two bouts, starting with Michael Bulkin's 4-3 decision against Trey Harstock at 197. With the Lions leading 9-5, Garrett Ryan scored his fourth pin of the season to improve to 22-4 at heavyweight, and increasing the team lead to 15-5.
The lead would start to diminish over the following four matches, which all went the way of the Bald Eagles. Lock Haven led 21-15 heading into the final bout of the day, which paired Markus Scheidel with Alex Klucker. Scheidel would earn bonus points for Columbia in a 14-4 major decision, but it would not be enough at Lock Haven held on for a 21-19 win.
Columbia (3-9) has one dual on the schedule next weekend, when the Lions head to Cornell (7-2) for a 1 p.m. Saturday showdown with the Big Red on the Ivy League Network.
