
Fencing Goes Undefeated in Day 1 of Ivy Championships

JADWIN GYMNASIUM - PRINCETON, NEW JERSEY

In the first match of the day, women's fencing scooted by Cornell, 24-3. Both epee and sabre went undefeated in the victory.
In a rematch of the final bout of the 2017 Ivy League Championships, Columbia took on Princeton in the second match of the day and dominated the Tigers, 19-8. Women's foil dropped just one bout against Princeton to lead the charge.
Columbia crushed Brown in the last match of the day, 23-4. The women's foil trio of Iman Blow, Ester Schreiber and Quinn Crum did not drop a bout. In sabre, both Violet Michel and Ilana Solomon went undefeated.
For women's foil, Blow had a 7-2 day and Quinn Crum was a perfect 6-0, adding to her undefeated Ivy League resume. Ester Schreiber and Sylvie Binder were both 5-1.
In sabre, Michel finished the day 8-1, and Lena Johnson was 5-1. Katie Angen paced the women's epee squad with a 7-1 first day.

MEN'S RECAP
In the men's first match of the day, the Lions defeated the Princeton Tigers 16-11. With Columbia needing one more bout to clinch the win, Sam Moelis climbed his way back from 3 down to defeat Princeton's Julian Knodt, 5-4.

Porter Hesslegrave was the only Lion to not drop a bout, going 3-0 against Princeton.
The Lions rounded out the first day of competition with a 21-6 rout of Brown. The sabre squad of Alexander Walker III, Calvin Liang, Dawson Sieradzky and Isaiah Garlin zipped the Bears 9-0.
Hesslegrave finished the day 5-0 and is a top the leaderboard in individual men's epee. Calvin Liang posted a 4-1 day and sits at fourth place in the individual men's sabre standings.
