
Lions Begin Season at Temple Fencing Open

Columbia Fencing competes at the Temple Open over the weekend in Philadelphia.
PHILADELPHIA – Columbia Lions return from their season opener with great results from their match ups at the Temple Open. The two-day event resulted in the team finishing with high honors bringing home bronze, silver, and gold medal placements.
The Women's Fencing competed first on Saturday winning a gold, silver, and two bronze medals. Top competitors for epee include Ariana Mangano, Gigi Vierheller, and LeeAnn Choy. Natalie Minarik finishes third in women's foil out of 72 fencers and won the untouchable award.
Fencers Rachel Zhang and Ashton Daniels earned top results internationally in London, U.K., at the Foil World Cup. They earned tenth and 16th places respectively.
For the men, team USA opened the Junior World Cup season with silver at the Sochi Men's Saber Junior World Cup. Congratulations to freshman Christopher Walker who made his team debut representing sabre. Top results include Dawson Sieradzky who finished third out of 90 fencers in sabre earning a bronze metal. Noe Schouker resulted in 21st place in epee.
The Lions are scheduled to compete again Nov 14 at 5 p.m. at NYU.
