LIMA, Peru — Three Columbia fencing alumni earned gold medals for the United States last week at the 2019 Pan American Games. Jeff Spear '10CC was part of a gold medal performance in the men's team sabre, while both Nicole Ross '13CC and Jackie Dubrovich '16CC helped the U.S. to gold in the women's team foil.
Ross and Dubrovich were two of the three competitors representing the United States in the women's team foil. They defeated Cuba in the quarterfinals before getting by Colombia in the semis to set up Thursday's gold medal match with Canada. Alongside teammate Lee Kiefer, Ross and Dubrovich defeated the Canadians, 45-39, to take home the gold inside the Lima Conventions Center.
Spear teamed up with Daryl Homer and Eli Dershwitz to win the men's team sabre. They blew past Cuba in the quarterfinals and Venezuela in the semifinals to take on the Canadians in the gold medal match. Spear came away with 15 touches as the trio downed Canada on Saturday, 45-41.
