Lions face Yeshiva for the first time in men’s fencing in 25 years.
NEW YORK—The Columbia Men's Fencing team took on neighboring Yeshiva University in a men's dual match and claimed a 23-4 victory over the Maccabees Thursday evening at Dodge Fitness Center's Columbia Fencing Room.
The Lions recently scheduled the match in order to prepare for their upcoming NCAA Regional and NCAA Championship meets in March.
The two schools met in fencing for the first time in at least 25 years. The teams began the evening trading gifts between the two squads including t-shirts between the coaches.
Columbia jumped out to a 6-0 lead en route to its 23-4 win. Yeshiva was missing two of its top fencers.
"It was great to have Yeshiva University on campus," Columbia Fencing Coach Michael Aufrichtig said. "They have a solid group of fencers and an extremely dedicated coach in Pete Rosas. We wanted to give them an opportunity to fence the best team in the country. It proved to be a great evening and a friendly event."
Columbia's Men's and Women's teams are back in action on Sunday, March 8 at the NCAA Northeast Regional in Ithaca, N.Y.
