Lions Knock Off Cornell To Win Hoehn Cup At CSA Nationals

Columbia Men's Squash took home the Hoehn Cup with a 6-3 win over Cornell.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Thanks to wins by the heart of the lineup, Columbia Men's Squash (10-8, 4-3 IVY) held off Ivy League foe Cornell (7-11), to win its fourth-straight match, winning 4-3 to take the Hoehn Cup at the College Squash Association National Championships on Sunday, Mar. 1 at the Murr Center.

The Lions got wins from Callen Hall (No. 2), Krish Kapur (No. 3), Chaitanya Shah (No. 4), Rahul Sehrawat, Aditya Kankariya and Hugh Camiener (No. 8) to lock up the Hoehn Cup and finish ninth in the country.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Hall for himself a solid four-set win at No. 2, bouncing back from a first-set loss to take down Charles Culhane, 7-11, 11-9, 13-11, 11-7 to give Columbia a team point. At No. 3, Kapur followed the same road map that Hall did, storming back from a first-set loss to win his match with Nikhil Iyer, 7-11, 11-4, 11-3, 11-5.

Shah had an easier time then his two teammates, knocking off Luke Park at No. 4 without dropping a set, 11-6, 11-4, 11-4 and the Lions got their final point of the match at No. 8 when Camiener held off a strong Alex Dworetzky to win 11-5, 11-8, 12-10 and the four team points were enough to give Columbia the Hoehn Cup.
