Fencing Claims 11 USFCA All-America Honors

Columbia's First Team All-America honorees include Sidarth Kumbla (men’s foil), Sam Moelis (men’s foil), Andrew Doddo (men’s saber), Christopher Waker (men’s saber), Ester Schreiber (women’s foil), Natalie Minarik (women’s foil), and Daniella Timofeyev (women’s saber).
NEW YORK—The defending national champion Columbia Fencing program had 11 fencers honored as All-Americans, while seven fencers earned First Team All-America accolades Thursday morning by the United States Fencing Coaches Association. The organization also announced its All-Region teams as 19 Lions garnered All-Northeast Region honors.
Each year the USFCA recognizes the outstanding work of the fencing student-athletes by naming the All-Americans based on their achievements in the national championship, however, this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic the championships were canceled. All-American honors were based on each fencer's overall body of work through the season competitions and NCAA Regionals. The list of award honorees with team designation is attached to this email.
Also, the USFCA has decided to create new postseason recognition awards to honor fencing student-athletes for their performances at NCAA Regionals.
Earning First Team All-America honors for Columbia were junior Sidarth Kumbla (men's foil), senior Sam Moelis (men's foil), senior Andrew Doddo (men's saber), first-year Christopher Waker (men's saber), senior Ester Schreiber (women's foil), sophomore Natalie Minarik (women's foil), and sophomore Daniella Timofeyev (women's saber). Other All-America honorees include Second Teamers sophomore Cedrick Mecke (men's epee) and senior Violet Michel (women's saber) and Honorable Mention picks senior Anne Cebula (women's epee) and senior Giana Vierheller (women's epee).
With 19 fencers receiving honors, Columbia had the most All-Region honorees in the Northeast Region. First Team All-Region recipients include Kumbla, Moelis, junior Josef Cohen (men's saber), Doddo, Walker, Cebula, Vierheller, Schreiber, and Timofeyev.
