This week Nina Tang of Columbia women's rowing is in the spotlight for Fun Fact Friday
Senior Nina Tang from the Columbia women's rowing team is this week's spotlight for Fun Fact Friday. Nina has quite the interesting hobby and career aspirations outside of athletics. Take a read below to see!
What do you like most about New York City?
The rise and grind attitude!
Who is your role model and Why?
The head of my research lab because she is an absolutely incredible woman in science.
What do you like most about your coach?
He never fails to surprise.
How do you prepare for a game?
Black coffee, instant oatmeal and a banana with almond butter.
Best part about competing in your sport?
There is nothing that matches the thrill and pain of sprinting next to another team down to the last meter.
Favorite sport memory?
I can't think of just one memory, but especially right now, there's nothing I wouldn't do to spend one more morning watching the sunrise as we launch onto the Harlem.
What are your athletic/academic goals at Columbia?
I am graduating this May and moving on to conduct parasite research at the National Institutes of Health until January, when I will leave for Switzerland to conduct antibiotic resistance research on a Fulbright research grant.
What are your hobbies/interests outside of athletics?
I really enjoy microbiology research! Any time I'm not in class or at practice, I am most likely uptown at CUMC in my lab.
Favorite movie?
Balto
Favorite food?
Everything bagel, two eggs, sausage, American cheese, spinach from Hamilton Deli.
Favorite home-cooked meal?
Spaghetti and spicy Italian sausage.
What was the last book you read?
'The Power' by Naomi Alderman
Favorite sports figure?
Zach Ertz (Fly Eagles fly!)
When I was little, I wanted to be ____ when I grew up. (Fill in the blank):
A dog (that clearly did not work out for me)
Best friend on another collegiate team:
My SAAC co-pres Amber (love of my life)
Notable individuals who attended your high school:
Bradley Cooper! I actually went on a service trip with him over Thanksgiving my senior year of high school.
What are your career goals?
I would love to work at the CDC or WHO in some sort of international role.
