The Retrievers started the contest on a 10-0 run and never looked back to claim a 98-60 victory.
BALTIMORE — UMBC claimed a 98-60 victory over the Columbia men's basketball team Wednesday night. Liam Murphy led the Lions (2-6) with 14 points and added seven boards, while Patrick Harding grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds and added seven points.
UMBC (5-2) capitalized on early turnovers and ran out to a 10-0 lead less than five minutes in. Harding got the Lions on the scoreboard with 14:56 left in the first half, but the Retrievers' advantage continued to grow throughout the opening frame and they led by 30 at the midway point.
Columbia shot 50.0 percent in the second frame, but was unable to string together enough baskets to get back into the contest.
Harding recorded double-figures for the third time in the past four games. The Retrievers held the Lions' leading scorer Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa scoreless for the first time this season. Eddie Turner III, who made his season debut, and Cameron Shockley-Okeke each had 10 points off the bench.
