Men's, Women's Fencing Ranked No. 2 in Nation

Columbia men and women both earn No. 2 national rankings in the United States Fencing Coaches Association Early Season poll.
NEW YORK—The Columbia men's and women's fencing teams both earned No. 2 national rankings in the Early Season United States Fencing Coaches Association poll. The poll marks the first of the 2021-22 college fencing season. Both polls can be accessed at this link.
In both polls, Columbia finished second behind No. 1 ranked Notre Dame. ranked No. 2 nationally. Columbia gets back to action on Jan. 16 when it travels to the compete in the Penn State Invitational in State College, Pa. The Lions will fence dual matches against North Carolina, Duke, Penn State, Yale, Penn, Haverford (men), and Temple (women).
For the 2021 early season poll, all NCAA Fencing head coaches were invited to vote. Points were awarded up to the maximum number of selections: 15 women's teams, 12 men's teams, eight NCAA Division III women's teams, and six NCAA Division III men's teams. This roughly corresponds to the top 1/3 of the men's and women's teams and 1/2 of the Division III teams. Another poll will be taken in the middle of the season and one near the end of the season.
