NEW YORK — For the second-straight season Columbia men's tennis has pulled in the No. 4 recruiting class in the country, according to TennisRecruiting.net's 2021 Top 25 Men's Recruiting Classes list. Matching the program high set a season ago, Columbia is the only program in the country to have back-to-back top five national recruiting classes.

Columbia's fourth-ranked recruiting class is the highest listed among Ivy League teams for the second year in-a-row and is comprised of Max Westphal, Hugo Hashimoto, Alex Finkelstein and Jayden Templeman.

Max Westphal – Paris, France
A member of the French Junior Davis Cup team, Westphal comes to Morningside Heights with some impressive credentials. With a career-high No. 24 Junior ITF world ranking, Westphal has a UTR high of 13.22. He has won two ITF titles with his biggest coming at the J2 event in Nagoya, Japan. Westphal has recorded nine wins over top-40 Junior ITF players, including three against top-10 Junior ITF players. Hugo Hashimoto – San Jose, Calif.
A Blue Chip recruit, Hashimoto joins the Lions having been ranked in the top five nationally in both 2020 and 2021. With a UTR high of 12.63, Hashimoto has earned a 9-1 record against fellow Blue Chip rated players over the past year. Notably, he owns three ITF Junior Doubles titles, including winning the USTA Boys Doubles National Hard Court Championships at Kalamazoo in 2019 which earned him and his partner a wildcard slot into the U.S. Open Juniors event.

Alex Finkelstein – Raynham, Mass.
Another five-star pickup for the Lions, former Blue Chip Finkelstein has been ranked as high as No. 14 nationally and has a UTR high 12.28. Earning four-straight wins over Blue Chips, Finkelstein finished in third place in singles at the 2019 USTA Hard Court Championships in Kalamazoo to earn a bronze ball at the tournament.

Jayden Templeman – Springville, Utah and Toronto, Ontario
A five-star recruit ranked as high as No. 15 on the National Recruiting Network, Templeman has also ranked as high as No. 101 in the world among ITF Juniors.
