MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Columbia fencing completed competition at U.S. Fencing's North American Cup over the weekend. Sophomore
Justin Haddad captured a silver medal in men's epee, and junior
Delphine DeVore took fifth place in women's foil for the top finishes for the program's current members. In total, 29 Lions, past and present, secured scoring positions.
"We will take this experience as we do with all opportunities to help us grow during the season," said head coach
Michael Aufrichtig on his team's performance.
Haddad pulled out a close decision in his opening matchup and rattled off four more victories to reach the finals, where he fell by a single touch, 15-14. DeVore picked up two bout wins to reach the quarterfinals of her weapon before being edged, 15-14, in the round of eight.
Columbia also saw three alumni reach the top eight, which qualified as a podium finish at this competition. Andrew Doddo' 20CC earned seventh in men's sabre, while Jackie Dubrovich' 16CC and
Sidarth Kumbla' 22CC each placed eighth in their respective weapons.
