Fourth Consecutive Doubles Point Propels Columbia Past Dartmouth, 4-0

Lions secure rapid win over Ivy League rival on first day of ECAC Indoors.
ITHACA, NY -- The Columbia men's tennis team secured its fourth consecutive doubles point en route to defeating Ivy League rival Dartmouth 4-0 on the first day of the 2022 ECAC Indoor Tennis Championships. The Lions will return to competition tomorrow evening at 6:00 P.M., facing the winner of Cornell/Yale.
Max Westphal and Theo Winegar collected the first victory of the match defeating Anders Gibbons and Dominik Pauli 6-3 from the top doubles spot. Roko Horvat and Austen Huang solidified the doubles victory with a 6-4 result over Pierce Widdecomb and Alex Knox-Jones.
Westphal continued to pace the Lions' success, earning the first singles decision of the match. From the third position, the rookie defeated Pauli in 6-3, 6-4. Teammate Alex Kotzen produced a similar result from the top spot, defeating Dartmouth's Carlos Gurrero Alvarez in straight sets (6-4, 6-4).
Horvat cinched the victory for Columbia, overcoming Andy Ilie. With the winning point in hand, the remaining three singles matches were halted and given a DNF result, however Columbia's competitors effectively swept all six first sets.
