McLean's Career Night Not Enough in Defeat at Dartmouth
2/19/2022 8:51:00 PM | Men's Basketball
The sophomore notched 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting and added five steals on the night.
HANOVER, N.H. — Zavian McLean netted a career-high 21 points, however nine first-half triples by Dartmouth was too much to overcome as the Big Green came away with a 79-50 victory over the Columbia men's basketball team. Brendan Barry contributed six of those 3-pointers and finished with 18 points in 24 minutes of action.
Saturday's game followed nearly the same formula as last night's contest with Harvard. Columbia (4-20, 1-11) took an early lead only to see the Big Green (7-15, 4-8) go on a run to take control they would never relinquish. McLean had eight quick points on the strength of a pair of 3-pointers to put the Lions up 11-6 with 16:16 left in the first. Dartmouth answered with five triples of its own to go in front by 10 at the 12:09 mark.
Stankard ended a 5:11 scoring drought with a transition layup, but the Big Green scored the next seven to make it a 22-2 outburst to go ahead, 28-13, with 8:53 left in the frame. McLean continued to shoulder the offensive load, but the rest of Columbia shot just 4-of-17 from the floor in the period and Dartmouth took a 49-30 lead at the half.
The Big Green went on to score the first 10 points of the second stanza and never looked back.
Next up for the Lions, one final road trip to Brown on Saturday, February 26. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
