Ithaca, NY -- The Columbia men's tennis team secured a 4-1 result over host Cornell on the second day of the 2022 ECAC Indoor Tennis Championships. The Lions' win was headlined by a straight set singles' sweep sparked for the second night by sophomore
Max Westphal.
After dropping the doubles point to the Big Red, Westphal righted Columbia's momentum with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Radu Papoe from the third spot. Sophomore
Roko Horvat replicated these results from the six position, defeating Adit Sinha 6-4, 6-4.
Columbia's top contender,
Alex Kotzen, collected the team's third victory off a hard fought battle from the top spot. Kotzen battled with Cornell's Alafia Ayeni to a 7-6 first set decision before sealing the deal 7-5 in the second. After taking his first set 6-3,
Henry Ruger cinched the Lions' fourth and deciding point with a 7-6 second set against Evan Bynoe.
Next up, Columbia faces the victor of Princeton/Harvard.Â
