Lions Learn Seeding For Wrestling National Championships

The NCAA Wrestling National Championships get going on Thursday, Mar. 17 in Detroit, Mich.
DETROIT — Columbia Wrestling's three Division I Wrestling National Championship qualifiers earned their seeds and learned who their opening opponent will be during the NCAA Wrestling National Championships Selection Show, with Matt Kazimir (141) being the top seed for Columbia at No. 11, and Joshua Ogunsanya (165) and Joe Manchio (125) earning the No. 14 and No. 29 seed respectively.
Kazimir, who won the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Championships title at 141 pounds, will face No. 22 Shannon Hanna (CAMP) in the first round, and would see either No. 6 Cole Matthews (PITT) or No. 27 Joseph Zargo (WIS) in the next round. Ogunsanya, who finished second at the EIWA Championships at 165 pounds, will open against No. 19 Justin McCoy (UVA) in the first round and could take on either No. 3 Alex Marinelli (IOWA) or Evan Barczak (DREX) in the following round.
At 125 pounds, Manchio, who earned an at-large bid after finishing fourth at the EIWA Championships, will take on No. 4 Brandon Courtney (ASU) with the shot at seeing either No. 13 Drake Ayala (IOWA) or No. 20 Fabian Gutierrez (CHAT) in the next round.
The NCAA Wrestling National Champiosnhips get going on Thursday, Mar. 17 at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan. The tournament will run from Mar. 17 to Saturday, Mar. 19.
