Four Lions Earn IRCA All-American Honors

NEW YORK — Already National Champions, Columbia lightweight rowing's Gil Dexter, Alexandros Zisimidis, Jackson Gallagher and Michael Keane earned Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association 2022 All-American honors as announced on June 28.

Dexter and Zisimidis each earned first team honors with Gallagher and Keane earning second team nods. All four Lions were part of the Varsity Eight crew that won the 2022 Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championships, and that win helped propel Columbia to an overall points title as well.

There were 102 rowers and coxswains who met the criteria to be named a first team, second team, or honorable mention All-American, a 40 percent increase over last year's eligible athletes. They represent 30 teams (25 heavyweight and 8 lightweight) from the 54 member programs.

In order to be named an "All-American", rowers and coxswains must have met the following criteria:

The student-athlete must meet all eligibility rules defined by their institution
The student must have raced in their team's varsity boat for the current spring racing season
The student-athlete must be nominated by their institution
The head coach of the student athlete's institution must be in good standing with the IRCA

Nominated student-athletes are then selected by the IRCA Board of Directors to "first team", "second team", or "honorable mention" based on the following criteria:

Strength of finish of the institution's varsity boat
Nomination Rank within institution
Coach's comments, individual achievements, and erg score
