Columbia improves to 1-3 overall in duals this season and starts EIWA action 1-0
WASHINGTON – Two pins and six major decisions allowed the Lions to post 48 points in a shutout victory over American on Friday night to start EIWA dual action. The Lions improve to 1-3 in dual action this season with the win.
Columbia has not scored 48 or more points in a dual since the Lions defeated Davidson, 49-0 on Jan. 7, 2012.
The scoring started early as Nick Babin was able to avoid a pinning attempt by Maximilian Leete by rolling Leete over on the mat to get the pin for himself instead at just over a minute into the 125 bout. Babin's win gave the Lions an early 6-0 advantage.
HM/32 Angelo Rini battled though the 133 bout to take a 15-6 major decision win over Jack Maida. The win ignited a string of four-straight major decisions. HM/27 Matt Kazimir earned an impressive 11-0 major decision at 141 over Ethan Szerencsits. Danny Fongaro then polished off a 14-6 major decision over Patrick Ryan in the 149 bout. HM/27 Cesar Alvan was victorious at 157 with a 17-6 major decision over Jack Nies. The Lions built up a 22-0 lead through the first five bouts.
Adding to an impressive start to the season, 22/17 Joshua Ogunsanya worked Caleb Campos into position and was able to complete the pin at just over four minutes into the 165 bout.
HM/32 Lennox Wolak added another major decision win in the 174 bout as he defeated Lucas White, 12-4. Aaron Ayzerov then won the 184 bout on a medical forfeit before Javen Jovero capped off the 197 bout by securing the Lions' sixth major decision win of the night with a 13-3 win over Connor Bourne.
