Men's Fencing Ranked No. 2, Women No. 3 in Latest USFCA Polls

The Lions held their spots from the preseason rankings in the Coaches Poll

NEW YORK - Columbia men's fencing is ranked No. 2, while the women have been tabbed No. 3 the midseason U.S. Fencing Coaches Association Poll, the organization announced Thursday evening. Both Lions' squads held their spots from the preseason poll that was announced in December.

The men's team racked up 88 points, two off of No. 1 Harvard. The Lions have compiled a 17-2 mark in dual competitions this season and are 6-2 against teams currently in the poll.

At 24-2, the women boast the most wins and highest winning percentage (.923) of any fencing program in the country. Columbia has 11 wins over the top-15, including one over Notre Dame last weekend, who checks in at No. 1.

The USFCA ranked the top 15 women's teams and 12 men's team from all NCAA programs, roughly corresponding to the top third of the men's and women's teams. Another poll will be announced near the end of the season.

Both teams are back in action Sunday, January 29, for five rounds of competition at the LIU Shark Showcase in Brooklyn. The Lions will take on LIU, Hunter College, St. John's, Princeton and Yale. Columbia starts the day against the Bulldogs at 11:15 a.m. The full day of competition can be seen live on NEC Front Row.
