NEW YORK — Columbia University has a total of five former and current fencers set to compete at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile. Josef Cohen' 21CC, Andrew Doddo' 21CC, Jackie Dubrovich' 16CC and
Zander Rhodes will represent Team USA. Current sophomore
Tamar Gordon will fence for the Canadian National Team. The fencing portion of the competition runs from October 30-November 4.
Cohen was an All-Ivy League and NCAA Northeast Regional silver medalist in 2020 in sabre. He racked up 67 dual bout victories during his three-year career with the Lions.
Doddo is currently ranked No. 13 in the United States in sabre and is coming off a gold medal performance at the Zone Championships in Lima, Peru, in June. At Columbia, Doddo was a two-time All-American and picked up an NCAA Northeast Regional silver medal along with first-team All-Ivy League honors in 2019.
The current No. 11 foilist in the world, Dubrovich was a four-time All-American and three-time medalist at the NCAA Championships for the Lions from 2012-16. She was an Olympian at the Tokyo Games in 2021 and earned a 12th-place finish at the 2023 World Championships in July.
Currently training for a spot on the 2024 Olympic roster, Rhodes has posted a pair of All-America finishes in her two seasons at Columbia. In April, she won the Junior Foil gold medal at the 2023 World Championships in Bulgaria.
Gordon is coming off a rookie campaign where she went 35-16 in dual bouts, competed at the Ivy League Round Robins and won a silver medal at the NCAA Northeast Regional in sabre. Gordon, who is enrolled at Barnard College, competed with Canada at the 2023 World Championships in Milan.
