Season openers, ECAC Championships, archery, lacrosse and an Ivy title chase highlight this weekend's games
NEW YORK — This week's edition of Lions on the Road features season openers for baseball and softball, ECAC Championships for swimming and diving, Indoor Archery Nationals, as well as road contests for lacrosse and women's basketball.
Fans looking for information related to the Ivy League Men's Swimming & Diving Championships, Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track & Field Championships, as well as Men's Squash CSA Team Nationals, can find those previews and event information separately on GoColumbiaLions.com.

SOFTBALL
The Softball team is headed to Orlando to open the 2023 season at the UCF Knights Classic. The Lions will play five games between Friday and Sunday, including two games on Friday, two games Saturday, and one game Sunday. Columbia will start the 2023 campaign against Gardner-Webb on Friday for an 11:30 a.m. first pitch. The Lions will complete the Friday doubleheader against Purdue with a 2 p.m. game. Columbia will wrap up the weekend with a Saturday doubleheader against Gardner-Webb and Louisville before playing Bradley on Sunday morning.
BASEBALL
The Columbia baseball team opens the 2023 season with a three-game series at No. 19 Virginia. The Lions were picked to finish first in the Ivy League Preseason Poll by eight sports information directors and eight members of the media around the league. For the full preview, click here.
MEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING
The Ivy League Championships is not the only event for men's swimming and diving this week, as part of the team travels to Maryland for the ECAC Championships hosted at Navy this weekend. Caleb Apodaca, Sam Eckert, Ali Elmasry, Jack Engle, Jack Engle, Casey Fellows, Hunter Kroll, Austin Lara, Seth Roach, Ike Shirakata, Rene Strezenicky, and Paddy Troy will be the roster making its way to Annapolis. The meet will run from Friday, February 24 until Sunday, February 26 with prelims and finals of multiple events. WOMEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING
After a solid performance at last weekend's Ivy League Championships, the Lions will be back at it this weekend at the ECAC Championships hosted by Navy in Maryland. Columbia will be looking to defend its first place finish from back in December at the ECAC Winter Championships, which was an outstanding performance. The meet will run from Friday, February 24 until Sunday, February 26 with prelims and finals of multiple events. ARCHERY
The archery team competes at the USA Archery Indoor National Championships this Saturday and Sunday. The Lions are scheduled to shoot at 12:30 p.m. each day, with live scoring available at BetweenEnds.com. Columbia wom the Women's Compound Collegiate Championship at last year's event with Sachiko Keane being named the 2022 Compound College Women's National Champion. The Lions are coming off an impressive showing at the NJ State Indoors a few weeks ago. Keane won gold in the compound and Judith Gottlieb took gold in the recurve. Columbia swept the podium in each discipline.
LACROSSE
The Columbia lacrosse team will have a quick turnaround and be back at it on Saturday for a non-conference game against Monmouth. Fresh off a dominating, 16-4 victory over CCSU on Wednesday evening, the Lions will look to remain undefeated and begin the season 3-0 for the first time since 2009. The first-years have been sharp the begin the season for Columbia, as first-year Cecelia Messner had a team-high four goals in the season opener, and first-year Cordelia Flemming had a game-high four goals in the home opener last night. They will look to keep it going into game three, as will the defense which finished off an impressive game against CCSU last night where it allowed only three goals on seven shots on goal, and forced 21 turnovers.

The women's basketball team plays its final road game of the regular season on Saturday, looking to keep pace as it chases down its first Ivy League Championship in program history. Columbia enters with a record of 21-4, 10-2 Ivy, which is the best record through 25 games in program history. Abbey Hsu is coming off a stellar weekend in which she scored a career-high 35 points at Harvard and was named Ivy League Player of the Week for a fourth time this season. A win on Saturday against Brown would set the Lions up to clinch either a share or the outright Ivy League title next Saturday at home against Cornell.
