The 2023 NCAA Sabre Champion picks up another honor
NEW YORK — Columbia senior fencer Nora Burke was named the United States Fencing Coaching Associations Women's Sabre Athlete of the Year, the organization announced May 11. The awards were determined by a nationwide vote of USFCA member fencing programs.
Burke captured the 40th NCAA Individual Championship in program history and the first women's sabre fencer to earn gold since 2007. She also secured an individual Ivy League Sabre title in February after posting a 16-1 mark during round robins. In dual matches, Burke posted a 48-10 mark.
The New York City native is a three-time All-American and earned the 2023 Connie S. Maniatty Award, which is given annually to the top senior student-athletes from men's and women's sports to recognize their outstanding Columbia careers.
