Fencing Alumni Excel at 2023 World Championships

The Lions had eight representatives compete at the event in Milan
MILAN — Columbia fencing had eight current and former student-athletes represent four different countries at the 2023 World Championships from July 22-30. Andrew Doddo '21CC (men's sabre) took bronze for the United States in the team competition to highlight the Lions' finishes.
Additionally, Jackie Dubrovich '16CC placed 12th in foil and Anne Cebula '20BC claimed 15th in epee to highlight individual performances for the Columbia contingent. Their results put them in a good position to earn a spot on the 2024 Paris Olympic squad.
Yana Botvinnik '23BC competed in women's epee, where she placed seventh in the team event for Israel. Ester Schreiber '20BC represented Sweden in women's foil and Maria Chart '21SEAS was with Team Great Britain in women's sabre. Two current Lions, Tamar Gordon '26BC (women's sabre) and Bogdan Hamilton (men's foil).
Columbia's sabre coach Akhnaten Spencer-El also served as head coach for the U.S. Sabre squad that won the bronze.
