Fencing's Will Morrill and Zander Rhodes Take Gold at October NAC

Columbia saw four current members and two alumni medal at the event
NEW YORK — Columbia fencing first-year Will Morrill (Division I men's sabre) and junior Zander Rhodes (Division I women's foil) each earned gold medals at the October North American Cup, which took place in Atlantic City from October 4-7. In total, four current members of the program and two alumni reached the podium.
Morrill went 6-for-6 in the pool stage and remained unbeaten in the bracket phase, earning seven wins on his way to victory. Rhodes took the same path as Morrill on her way to gold, going undefeated in the group stage and picked up seven more bout wins to take the top spot.
First-year Carolina Stutchbury reached the finals of the foil competition, highlighted by a victory over women's foil team gold medalist Maia Weintraub in the quarterfinals. Her only blemish on the day was falling to Rhodes, 15-9, in the last bout of the event.
Junior Tierna Oxenreider was the runner-up in Division I women's epee on Monday after posting six victories in the knockout rounds to reach the finals.
Teddy Lombardo '23CC and James Bourtis '22CC each took bronze in Division I men's epee and men's foil, respectively.
In total, Columbia boasted 22 top-32 finishes between current and former members of the program.
