Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa Named Ivy League Player of the Week

The senior guard dropped 27 second half points in Saturday’s win
PRINCETON, N.J. — Columbia men's basketball's Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa has been named Ivy League Player of the Week for the third time this season, the conference announced on Monday afternoon.
In Saturday's 85-72 win over Fairfield, Rubio De La Rosa exploded for all of his 27 points in the second half. He went 8-11 from the floor, 5-7 from downtown, and 6-6 from the free throw line to carry the Lions in the final 20 minutes. It was the seventh 20-point performance of Rubio De La Rosa's season.
Rubio De La Rosa is averaging 19.6 points per game (25th in the country) on 53.7 percent shooting from the field. His 46.4 percent mark from beyond the arc ranks 17th in the country. The Santiago, Dominican Republic native is 50-55 from the free throw line (90.9 percent). Rubio De La Rosa's 235 points this season lead the Ivy League.
On top of his Ivy League Player of the Week honors this season (Nov. 11, Nov. 25, Dec. 30), Rubio De La Rosa has been tabbed Mid-Major Madness Player of the Week (Nov. 12), CollegeInsider.com Lou Henson National Player of the Week twice (Nov. 11 and Nov. 25), ESPN Dick Vitale National Player of the Week (Nov. 25), and USBWA Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week (Nov. 26).
Columbia (11-1) is off to its best start since 1969-70 and has won its first eight home games in a season for the first time since 1981-82. The Lions play at Rutgers on Monday at 5 p.m. The game will air live on the Big Ten Network.
