Columbia dominates to improve to 3-1 in Ivy League play

NEW YORK – The 10^th-ranked Columbia men's tennis team dominated to earn a 4-0 win over Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon at the Philip and Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center.

Columbia improves to 17-3 overall with a 3-1 mark in Ivy League matches. The win sets up a high-stakes showdown against No. 13 Harvard on Sunday at the Milstein Family Tennis Center. Harvard is now 4-0 in league action after defeating Cornell, 4-2 on Saturday.

The Lions used wins in the doubles No. 2 and 3 spots to take the doubles point to start the match. The No. 57 duo of Nicolas Kotzen and Max Westphal defeated Henry Ren and Alex Knox-Jones in the No. 2 spot, 6-2. Alex Kotzen and Henry Ruger clinched doubles with a 6-4 win against Miles Groom and Waleed Qadir in the No. 3 position.

No. 21 Michael Zheng, Nicolas Kotzen and Hugo Hashimoto earned singles wins to finish off the 4-0 win over Dartmouth.

Zheng rolled in the top singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Ren. Hashimoto followed that up with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Knox-Jones in the No. 5 singles. Nicolas Kotzen clinched the match victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Carolos Guerrero Alvarez in the No. 3 spot.
