McGill went 2-0 this weekend with a win over Penn’s No. 7 Nick Incontrera
PRINCETON, N.J. – Columbia senior 174-pounder Jack McGill earned Ivy League Co-Wrestler of the Week recognition Tuesday after finishing the weekend 2-0 with a win over a top 10 opponent.
"Jack performed well this weekend," Andrew F. Barth Head Coach of Wrestling Donny Pritzlaff said. "As a captain, he has shown tremendous leadership the entire season and his work ethic is a positive example for our program. We look forward to seeing him continue to build upon a solid season."
McGill started the Ivy League slate strong this weekend with two victories. In a high-energy affair Friday night against Penn, McGill posted a 14-3 major decision victory over 7th-ranked Nick Incontrera at 174 pounds. McGill used a takedown and near fall early in the first period to build an early lead. He then added takedowns in the second and third periods to finish off the win.
Following the top 10 victory on Friday night, McGill kept the momentum going Sunday to finish the weekend on a strong note. McGill defeated Xavier Giles in a tight battle at 174 that saw McGill battle to a 2-0 decision victory. McGill capitalized on a Columbia challenge that resulted in an escape point in the second period. Moments later when action resumed, McGill added another point on an escape. McGill was able to hold off Giles through the final period to secure his second victory of the weekend.
