Michael Zheng Wins Ivy League Qualifier Tournament

Reigning National Champion moves one step closer to earning a berth to defend singles crown

PHILADELPHIA – Columbia men's tennis senior Michael Zheng wrapped up a dominating weekend on Monday with a straight-sets win to capture the singles title at the Ivy League Qualifier. With the win, Zheng earns a berth at the ITA Master's Championship, where he can secure a spot in the NCAA Singles Championships.

Zheng's stellar weekend was the highlight of the Lions' busy weekend. Columbia played in three different tournaments, culminating with Zheng's straight-sets win over Shaurya Bharadwaj of Penn.

Columbia also sent eight athletes to the South, competing at the Rome Tennis Center Collegiate Invite and the Crimson Tide Fall Tournament.

At the RTC Collegiate Invite, Jung Hee You went 3-1 in singles play. At the Crimson Tide Fall Tournament, the four Lions squared off against stiff SEC competition. Thanaphat Boosarwaongse, Andrew Ena and Aditya Govila all earned wins in singles play.

Columbia returns to action November 6-9, when some members of the team will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C., to play in the ITA Sectional Championships. Others will travel to San Diego to compete in the ITA Master's Championships.
