The Lions welcome back a loaded roster expected to compete in 2025-26
NEW YORK – Columbia wrestling launches its 123rd season Sunday at the Journeyman Collegiate Classic, held at Freedom High School in Bethlehem, Pa.
Twenty-three Lions are set to compete in the first tournament of the year. The unique round-robin style tournament will split the 10 weight classes into multiple groups, which are then split into two pools, Pool A and Pool B. Within each pool, wrestlers will face off in a mini round-robin tournament. The wrestler with the best record in each pool will advance to wrestling for that group's championship.

BACK FOR 2025-26
The Lions bring back 19 wrestlers from last year's squad, including seven NCAA qualifiers. Highlighting the list of returners are seniors Cesar Alvan, Aaron Ayzerov, Richard Fedalen, Nick Fine, Kai Owen, and Jack Wehmeyer. Key juniors back for the Lions in 2025-25 include Sulayman Bah, Joe Curtis, and Lorenzo Frezza.
IN THE RANKINGS
In the latest rankings from Intermat and FloWrestling, Columbia has six athletes ranked in the top 30. Alvan, Ayzerov, and Wehmeyer also appear in The Open Mat top-20 rankings.
FRESH FACES
The Lions welcomed nine newcomers to the 2025-26 roster. The incoming class features two athletes from New York City, three from Pennsylvania, one from Florida, and one from Minnesota, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
LOOKING BACK
Year one under the leadership of Andrew F. Barth Head Coach of Wrestling Donny Pritzlaff was a resounding success. The Lions finished the year 6-7 overall and 2-3 in conference action. They took third at the Ivy League Tournament and sent five athletes to the NCAAs, tied for the second-most in program history.
