Aaron Ayzerov Named Ivy League Wrestler of the Week

Senior went 2-0 on Sunday at Rider Tri-Meet
NEW YORK – Columbia wrestling senior Aaron Ayzerov, who went 2-0 last weekend, helping the Lions go 1-1 at the Rider Tri-Meet, has been named the Ivy League Wrestler of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Ayzerov was one of two Lions to go 2-0 in the duals against Clarion and Rider. He opened the day with a win via fall over Clarion's Adrian Gacek. Ayzerov jumped out to an early 3-0 lead thanks to a takedown midway through the first period, after a reversal in the second to take a 5-0 lead. Ayzerov finished the match with a win via fall at 3:53.
In his second bout of the day, he notched a 15-0 win via tech fall over Rider's Giovanni Alejandro. Ayzerov dominated the match, jumping out to a 10-0 lead after the first period thanks to a takedown and two nearfalls. Leading 14-0 in the third, an escape with two minutes remaining gave him the 15-0 win.
Ayzerov is up to No. 16 in the FloWrestling 184-pound weight class rankings. He is 10-7 on the year, with two wins by fall and two by tech fall.
The Lions will return to action on January 3 against LIU in Brookville, N.Y. That match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
