PHILADELPHIA — Columbia men's and women's fencing finished second at the 2025 Ivy League Championships. The men posted a 3-1 mark, while the women were 5-1. The Lion men swept the individual weapon championships, highlighted by Sam Kumbla repeating as Ivy League Foil Champion. First-year Will Morrill earned the sabre crown, while Justin Haddad won the epee title. Junior Tierna Oxenreider picked up the individual women's epee championship, respectively.
 
Ethan Kushnerik (epee), Skyler Liverant (epee) and Marsel Nagimov (foil) all earned All-Ivy League Second Team accolades. On the women's side, Mina Yamanaka (epee) and Carolina Stutchbury (foil) picked up first-team honors, while Zander Rhodes (foil) earned a spot on the second team.
 
The men earned a 17-10 victory over Harvard to set up a winner-take-all matchup against the Tigers in the final round of the event. Columbia and the Crimson were knotted 10-10 before the Lions rattled off seven-straight to pick up the win.
 
The final bout was a tight battle throughout. With the score tied at 12, the Lions were two touches away from clinching with foil and epee sitting on four points. However, Princeton came from behind in both contests to take the match and the outright Ivy League title.
 
The women were in control from the start in a 20-7 win over Cornell to draw even with Harvard at 4-0 in the standings before a showdown with the Crimson in round two of the day. Columbia and Harvard proceeded to go nearly bout-by-bout with the Crimson ultimately prevailing, 14-13, to put a damper on the chance for a women's repeat.
 
The Lions bounced back in the final round, taking down top-seeded Princeton, xx-xx, to close out the event and earn a second-place finish.
 
The Lions will close the regular season at home for the George Kolombatovich Historical Meet on Wednesday, February 12. Columbia will take on Vassar, Sacred Heart and NYU, beginning at 5 p.m. at the Dodge Physical Fitness Center.
