Lions winning streak halted at five matches
MALIBU, Calif. – The ninth-ranked Columbia men's tennis team saw its five-match winning streak end Thursday evening when No. 21 Pepperdine defeated the Lions 4-1, at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
Columbia falls to 10-4 overall and is now 1-1 on the road. The Lions go .500 on the Southern California road trip, which saw Columbia defeat No. 6 San Diego on Monday evening.
Pepperdine (11-6) took control of the match early, winning the doubles point thanks to wins on the one and two matches. Hugh Winter and Edward Winter defeated the 35th-ranked duo of Nicolas Kotzen/Michael Zheng 6-2. At the number two spot, Linus Halldin/Maxi Homberg held on to defeat Sachin Palta/Max Westphal 7-6 (7-5).
In the singles matches, the Lions got a win from first-year Thanaphat Boosarawongse, who defeated David Fix in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Edward Winter got the better of top-ranked Michael Zheng, winning 6-3, 7-5. Pepperdine secured the match with wins from Lasse Peortner over Max Westphall (7-6, 6-2) and Linus Halldin over Hugo Hashimoto (7-5, 6-4).
