Fencing Puts Five on All-America Squads as Competition Wraps at NCAA Championships

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Columbia fencing saw five more fencers earn All-America honors as it wrapped up the 2025 NCAA Championships on Sunday. Tierna Oxenreider claimed silver for the second consecutive year in epee to pick up first-team honors. Zander Rhodes and Carolina Stutchbury tied for third in foil to join Oxenreider on the first team. The duo of Tamar Gordon and Chloe Gouhin secured spots on the second team after top-eight performances.
The Lions finished second in the combined team competition with 172 round-robin victories. Notre Dame took the team championship with 183 points.
Oxenreider moved from fifth to third after winning 8-of-10 bouts to reach the podium for the second consecutive year. She picked up a 15-11 semifinal win against Princeton's Hadley Husisian to set up a matchup with the Fighting Irish's Eszter Muhari, who ran the table in the prelims and dispatched her semifinal opponent 15-2.
Oxenreider proved to be Muhari's most formidable challenger of the event despite trailing much of the bout. Down 12-10, the Columbia junior tied things up with 30 seconds remaining before Muhari took three of the next four touches to cap off her dominant performance.
Rhodes was the top foil qualifier after going 6-2 to win the prelims. Stutchbury moved up to third place with a 7-2 mark in the prelims to secure her spot in the afternoon session.
Rhodes led late in her semifinal matchup against Arianna Cao from Stanford. However, Cao battled back late to pick up a narrow 15-13 victory. Stutchbury couldn't dig out of an early hole in her contest with Jessica Guo of Harvard, falling 12-9 to tie her teammate for the bronze.
Gordon was 4-3 in the final two rounds to pick up a fifth-place finish and a spot on the second team in sabre. Gouhin notched three victories and finished eighth to secure another spot on the All-America list.
