ORLANDO, Fla. – Columbia men's tennis rising senior
Michael Zheng is one win away from capturing a wild card spot in this summer's US Open. Zheng and teammate
Nicolas Kotzen are competing this week at the American Collegiate Wildcard Playoff held at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.
Zheng defeated Ohio State's junior Aidan Kim 7-5, 6-2 yesterday to advance to this evening's finals. Zheng will take on a familiar opponent in Wake Forrest's Stefan Dostanic tonight at 5 p.m. ET.
The winner of tonight's match will receive a wild card in the main draw of the 2025 US Open men's singles event, while the loser will be a wild card in the qualifying draw.
Zheng has faced Dostanic twice this year. They first squared off on Feb. 8 at the Philip & Cheryle Milstein Family Tennis Center, with Zheng winning 3-6, 7-6(7-2), 7-5. On May 16, Donstanic got the better of Zheng in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships, winning 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Tonight's match will be streamed on YouTube and can be accessed here. Fans can also follow live results here.
Thanks to the weather in Orlando, yesterday's doubles match for Zheng and Kotzen was halted with the duo leading Stanford's duo of Nico Godsick and Hudson Rivera 6-4, 6-7, 2-1. That match will resume after the completion of Zheng's dual against Dostanic.
